The High Church was having to compete with the Latitudinarinan Party, Evangelicism, and Catholicism for followers.
The Oxford environment was very insular at the time; so, naturally, the Oxford movement turned out to have an extreme reaction against Church Reform.
The Oxford Movement had several different titles including: High Church, Tractarianism, Anglo-Catholicism, and Puseyism.
The Oxford Movement adhered to several ideas from the Catholic church, such as apostolic succession, conversion through the sacrament, and a tendency toward ritual. In fact, Newman actually converted to Roman Catholicism, and, because he was such an important figure in the movement, several others followed him.
The Oxford Movement led to a restoration of art and poetry to the Church; Many churches were beautifully built and restored using the neo-Gothic style ( although, some churches were irreparably damaged by a restoration process which tried to impose neo-Gothic architecture).
